Sharaf started his career at Spectrum as a copywriter about two decades ago and as Associate Creative Director has the distinction of earning a doctorate in Urdu. The book was his thesis submission.
Advertising in Urdu Language, a Linguistic, Social, Political, Historical and Analytical Discourse is Dr. Sharaf’s first book, a qualitative study focusing on increasing penetration and influence of advertising, particularly on the overall social conduct and civilization of the subcontinent.
Full of entertaining and historically compelling answers, this book aims to provide advertising professionals with valuable techniques for applying breakthrough creativity and innovation in the workplace.
Of his time in advertising Dr. Sharaf says it has armed him with some “invaluable skills” to take into the world of publishing. “Without it I wouldn’t have the resilience needed to complete a PhD”.
Dedicating the book to his mother, he writes a moving tribute in verse

Mujh se bekaar ko tu ne hi banaya hai sharaf, مجھ سے بیکار کو تونے ہی بنایا ہے شرف
Iss mohabbat ko bhala keisay faramosh karun, اس محبت کو بھلا کیسے فراموش کروں
Meri ma ne tou mujhay jeena sikhaya hai sharaf.” میری ماں نے تو مجھے جینا سکھایا ہےشرف
