VML Y&R Cape town is looking for a Deputy Managing Director to oversee and lead its Cape Town office.

Role Summary

VML Y&R Cape town is looking for a Deputy Managing Director to oversee and lead its Cape Town office.

They will establish the strategic goals, working towards growth and profitability. They will hold senior relationships with clients and be responsible for new business. This person will report directly to the MD of VMLYR South Africa.


  • Work with our co-CEOs and MD to define and implement the strategic business plan for VMLY&R Cape Town
  • Have a proven track record of achieving goals while creating a positive team environment
  • Working with the CCO in setting the overall culture, tone and style of the agency. Providing inspiring and stimulating leadership to allow the work and commercial creativity to flourish. Creates pride in the agency and its work
  • Present and lead high value pitches
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring other team members and supporting their professional development. Acting as a mentor and role model for the whole agency team
  • A quick-thinking, agile, strategic mindset able to anticipate needs, respond to feedback, or change course with grace and positivity
  • An ability to ‘go deep’ on a project or client request to fully understand what’s involved, what we need to do, and how we get there
  • A willingness to do more than say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’, but instead challenge uncertainties, gain clarity, and deliver beyond expectation
  • Focused on the personal and professional development of their team
  • Experienced in directing the operations and processes in sympathetic partnership with the work of the agency
  • Strategic thinker who can see the greater potential for the agency whilst learning from the past and able to take realistic and strategic decisions about the future
  • Able to solve problems and make effective and timely decisions based on the knowledge available
  • Proficient at building strong and cordial relationships with both senior colleagues and junior staff
  • Able to appreciate the combination and balance of the people, the task and the numbers

Required Experience

  • Minimum 10 years agency experience in a leadership position
  • Proven ability to fully own client accounts and hit revenue targets
  • Experience managing a team of direct reports
  • Impeccable client relationship skills and experience working with high-touch clients
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changeable scenarios
  • Proactive, multi-tasker, problem-solver who is a collaborative team player
  • Immense positivity and passion
  • Clear, articulate, enthusiastic presenter
  • Understanding of communications/marketing strategy
  • Skillful at managing up, knowing when to seek help and raise a red flag
  • Detail oriented and supremely organized
