Surf Shack / 'Dead Fish Eyes'

The idea is about the healing power of the ocean and how it can positively affect a child’s development and outlook on life regardless of their situation. Life on the Cape Flats (Cape Town’s infamous Ganglands) is bleak. Generations of oppression, suffering, violence and all that comes with it makes it a place that very few ever get out of. This is a true story about how the timeless art of surfing is helping young children from the Cape Flats find a new alternative to a life of Gangsterisim.

Dead Fish Eyes is a 2 minute film that depicts the plight of young men on the Cape Gangs. The way they are recruited and what they have to go through to become members - blood in, blood out - meaning you have to kill another to get into the gang.
